Meet the Mobs

This year, during Minecon Earth, crafters all around the world got the opportunity to vote for one of four different Minecraft mobs, and the winner would be added to Minecraft. Keep reading to learn more about the vote, the candidates, and the winner!



The Candidates

Mob A
The Monster of the Ocean Depths

Mob A, the Monster of the Ocean Depths, is an ocean-dwelling mob that lurks in the inky darkness of the sea floor, and when it senses a player nearby, it will attack, dragging the player down beneath the surface using its "tongue-like tentacle" to drown the unfortunate victim.
Jens Bergensten (aka Jeb) stated: "You should vote for this mob because the oceans currently do not have that much content and it would make it more exciting when traveling from island to island."



Mob B
The Monster of the Night Skies

Mob B, the Monster of the Night Skies, is a flying pterodactyl-like creature that spawns in the overworld at high altitudes.
It will attack players in swarms, and is especially attracted to players who haven't slept in a while.
Jeb urged voters to pick this mob because "there are currently no flying monsters in the overworld."



Mob C
The Great Hunger

The Great Hunger is a creature somewhat similar to the Sarlacc from Star Wars.
It wanders the overworld until it finds the ideal spot for its intents, and then it opens its mouth facing upward and sinks into the ground, camouflaging itself and consuming whatever falls into its gaping jaws.
Jeb hinted that it possesses some sort of enchanting powers, though he does not elaborate on how they work. He did suggest, however, that you vote for Mob C to use these powers to your own advantage.



Mob D
The Hovering Inferno

Though I try to remain as unbiased as I can in my blogging, it's hard not for me to love this one.
Though he does not explicitly state so, Jeb indicates that Mob D is another Boss. He describes it as a "Master Blaze" that spawns randomly in the Nether with an entourage of minion blazes protecting it. It has a powerful shockwave attack, and it uses its shield-like body parts to defend itself.
Jeb pulled for you to vote for Mob D in order to make the Nether "scarier and more exciting."



The Vote

The vote consisted of three rounds, with the mob with the least votes in each round being eliminated after the round was over.
In round one, it was extremely hotly contested, with Mob B coming in first with 27% of the votes, Mob C landing second with 26% of the votes, and both Mob A and Mob D got only 23% of the votes, however, Mob A got ever so slightly less, and it was eliminated.
In round two, Mob D got the least votes, with 27% as compared to Mob C's 34% and Mob B's 37%. Thus, Mob D was eliminated, and Mob B and Mob C went on to fight it out in the final round.

Congratulations to Mob B, who won the vote by a very slim majority! Mob B will be added to Minecraft in 2018 as part of the Update Aquatic.
